WORD Magazine’s hard-working staff contributed to Santa Barbara’s I Madonnari festival in front of Mission Santa Barbara from May 27-29, 2023. The longest running street chalk festival in the United States, the festival raises funds for arts education in Santa Barbara’s public schools. Students from WORD selected the loteria-themed cover of a recent issue to recreate for SB locals. As UCSB alumns passed by, they could be heard reminiscing about Isla Vista’s surf scene, its iconic Del Playa drive, the shoes on the power lines, Storke Tower, and, of course, UCSB’s plentiful raccoons.
